The Federation for Children with Special Needs is the only agency of its kind in Massachusetts, and should be positioned as a unique voice for special education families. To pursue this goal, I am actively working to deepen our relationships with Boston Globe reporters.
The Globe’s award-winning Spotlight team, along with other education reporters, remain a vital source of information for greater Boston and New England. Policymakers read the Globe, as do educators and professionals working with our communities, along with donors and potential supporters. In my experience, other media outlets notice what the Globe has to say – and coverage in the Globe can lead to wider traditional and digital media exposure.
Being a resource to the Globe allows us to have a voice on public issues, while also bringing attention to our work, mission, communities and families. Here are recent examples of coverage:
- Questions persist over why Boston preschooler was restrained (By James Vaznis, March 7, 2024)
- The wealthy have unfair advantages when getting specialized education for their kids. Here’s what the state can do. (By Mandy McLaren, November 12, 2024)
- Federal loans paused after Trump order. See how Mass is affected (By Danny McDonald, Samantha J. Gross, Jason Laughlin and John Hilliard, January 28, 2025)
- Districts cite ballooning special ed costs among reasons why they can’t pay striking teachers more (By Deanna Pan and Mandy McLaren Globe Staff, November 17, 2024)
